What is a Baraat?
The Baraat is the groom’s wedding procession. Traditionally, the groom arrives at the wedding venue with family and friends in a lively celebration that includes music, dancing, and sometimes a decorated horse or car. It symbolizes joy and the groom’s journey to join his bride’s family. Guests often join in the dancing and festivities before the formal ceremony begins.
What is an Anand Karaj?
Anand Karaj means “Blissful Union.” It is the Sikh wedding ceremony where the couple is united in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy scripture).
What should I wear to a Sikh wedding?
Modest, formal attire. Women often wear long dresses or traditional outfits; men wear suits or traditional kurta pajamas. Please avoid wearing red at the cermony.
Can non-Sikhs participate in any part of the ceremony?
Yes, everyone can sit and listen. Participation in prayers is optional. If you don't feel comfortable please remain in the food hall.
Can men and women sit together during the ceremony?
Traditionally, men sit on one side and women on the other.
What else should I know to prepare for the Anand Karaj?
Please refrain from consuming alcohol or eating any kind of meat, poultry, or fish before entering the place of worship.
Shoes must be removed before entering the Gurdwara.
Everyone is required to cover their head inside the Gurdwara. Men can use a handkerchief or scarf, and women typically use a dupatta or scarf.
Wear something you are comfortable in as you will be sitting on the ground.
Can I bring a plus one?

What is the attire for the reception?
We kindly request that family members wear traditional Indian attire. Guests are also welcome to join in by wearing Indian clothing or formal attire.
